What is austenitic stainless steel pipe?

2024-05-23

Nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr) are the main alloy elements that form austenite, so when we introduce our stainless steel pipes to customers, we usually mention the nickel content. It can be seen that the nickel content reflects the quality of austenitic stainless steel pipes. an important standard. Nickel is an important metal element that improves the corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipes, but the corrosion resistance of nickel can only play its role when matched with chromium. After adding 8% nickel to steel with a chromium content of 18%, And when the carbon content is about 0.1%, nickel can expand the passivation ability of stainless steel pipes, improve the anti-oxidation ability of the surface of stainless steel pipes, and greatly improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipes. Stainless steel with this ratio undergoes solid solution treatment at a temperature below 1000 degrees, and with the help of rapid cooling, it can become what we often call austenitic stainless steel pipes (also known as: 18-8 type chromium-nickel austenite stainless steel pipe).

Austenitic stainless steel pipe has the following characteristics:

1. First of all, it goes without saying that it has high corrosion resistance. It generally will not rust in normal use environment.

2. Secondly, austenite is generally non-magnetic at room temperature, but sometimes shows weak magnetism when cold worked. This is why our stainless steel square tubes and rectangular tubes sometimes have weak magnetism. When steel strips are produced into stainless steel pipes, they are first rolled into round pipes, then welded, and then the four corners are extruded into square or rectangular pipes. This process is completed by cold working.

3. It has good ductility and plasticity, and is generally not easy to deform after forming. The mechanical properties of austenitic stainless steel pipe cannot be changed through heat treatment, and can only be strengthened by cold working to deform it. This feature is widely used by us in the secondary processing of stainless steel pipes, such as the bending processing of stainless steel pipes and the production of stainless steel heterosexual pipes.

4. Another very important feature of austenitic pipes is weldability. Weldability is one of the very important characteristics of austenitic pipes that can be widely used. We produce and manufacture almost all stainless steel pipe products. All are welded. When austenitic pipes are welded, it can ensure that they are not easily deformed during welding and the welding joint remains firm.
